Jeremy - "Pop Dreams"
album. Man is the guy prolific, magnificent pop tunes but still the nicest
person in the business. [
Ben's Diapers - "Laughter Tracks" album. Ok, yeah, so I produced half the tracks but all the songs are superb. Every release from my Finnish buddies keeps getting better and better.
Danny McDonald - "Summer City" album. A fantastic follow-up to the P76 debut. The same quality melodies and high energy but more variation and originality.
The Wilson Hospital - "Medication for a lost generation" album. Swepop's answer to the Hummingbirds doing Pet Sounds.
The Jaycos - "Asbestos Fibro" unreleased. Superb alt-country tune from my Perth buddies, Grant & Andrew.
Holst - "The Planet Suite". The first classical music that's given me a real buzz.
The Hellacopters - "By the Grace of God" single. Great riff, great single, who's been listening to Big Star Records?
Darren Hanlon - "Hello Stranger" album. I feel like re-doing ever lyric I've ever written after hearing this.
The Foo Fighters - "All My Life" single. Actually this whole new album IS power-pop. Dave Grohl has to be the coolest guy in rock n' roll.
Håkan Hellstrom - "Kom Igen Lena!" single. My first Swedish rekurd.
Pop Greetings Vol. 4 - Various artists compilation. The very best pop from Sweden. Another consistent, top quality release from Stefan and Yesterday Girl Records.
Total Lee: the songs of Lee Hazlewood - finally a tribute to my ultimate hero
The Triffids - "Born Sandy Devotional". A classic album
Bad Cash Quartet - the new album, "Outcast". Great Swedish pop

In a historic return to the south of Sweden, Joe played a solo gig at Estrad two days shy of his 30th birthday. Many family and friends had gathered, including Torpedo Record's Lars Wenker and members of his Expo 58 team, in particular his royal hieness, Prince Bengt.

|JOE AND HAPPYDEADMEN
Joe has teamed up with his Torpedo labelmates, happydeadmen in Stockholm for what could possibly be the ultimate Torpedo recording (Lars Wenker is totally overcome). On Sunday 22 August at Hillson Sound Studios they recorded a version of Gene Clark's "Full Circle Song" for a forthcoming tribute compilation. The compilation is likely to be a double CD celebrating the incredibly outstanding (but criminally uknown) work of the ex-Byrd. |IPO 99 [05/08/99]
Joe has just returned from his performance at the second International Pop Overthrow Festival in Los Angeles. Unfortunately plans to reunite with the rest of Jack & the Beanstalk, or at least Kevin, fell through. Nevertheless Joe put in a rather dodgy solo set to appreciative fans and friends, most of whom he met there in 1998.
Joe and friends at IPO, California
COWBOY IN SWEDEN [09/07/99]
Joe performed his first concert since his return to Sweden at Kafe Tjoget near where he lives in Stockholm. The gig was a success but afterwards Joe raced off to the re-sceduled Fanclub Festival where his long time hero, Lee Hazlewood was performing. It was Lee's first gig in Sweden in 25 years and possibly his last, he turned 70 on this date. Joe missed his set and was "totally spewing", but from all reports it was a shit concert. At least the crowd at Joe's gig were treated to lively versions of Sugar Town and These Boots Are Made For Walkin'.
THE SUN [08/06/99]
Joe's first proper solo album, has eventually been released across the world, through Parasol records, Torpedo Records and Egomaniac Music. You can check the full tracklisting of the album, sleeve notes from Spinning Top's, Mal Hope, and other details in the records section.
