Bev's Poetry

A Booklet of Poems entitled 'Voices from the Past'  was written and published during the 1995 Exhibition.  Whilst immersing myself in some of the events of WWII, four poems emerged.  Firstly, after viewing the re-enactment of D-Day broadcast world-wide on TV on 6th June 1995 from the shores of Dunkirk, 'A Digger's Voice' flowed from my pen.  Written from the perspective of an old digger in his 80's, who looks back and asks people of today -

'Although you didn't know my mates
I ask you, please remember!'

Another poem was written after hearing an Australian Broadcasting Commission interview with Geoffrey Bingham and reading his book about spending 1000 days in Changi Prison.  It speaks of -

' Wining and dining enjoying my life
Earning a living and finding a wife....'

only to be captured and interned in Changi POW camp in Singapore for one thousand days.

Thinking of the effect this war had on children whose fathers left home whilst they were in the first years of their lives, caused me to write       'A Child's View' -

Voices from the Past

A Child's View

My Daddy's helping win the war
In some land far away

And Mummy says I must be good

For he'll come home one day.
I wonder who my Daddy is
He left when I was one.....etc.
