Special Historical Exhibition

Major Art Exhibition held in 1995

Beverley Lunt and another artist

teamed together to present

'The Battle for Freedom'

as part of the 50th Anniversary of the end of WWII or Australia Remembers commemorations. Presentations were displayed in Perth, Kalgoorlie - Boulder, Geraldton and other venues in Western Australia over a six month period.

They aimed for a fresh approach, concentrating on creating an original collection of 60 paintings based on historical records supplied by Australian Defence Force libraries and personnel, and individual researchers.

Army battalions formed in Western Australia who fought on the Mediterranean and Pacific fronts and various Naval actions of WWII were featured. The result was a poignant reminder of the hardship, heroism and  mateship of these days and gives a message for today:

"A country that forgets it's past has no future", as quoted by Sir Charles Court, AK KCMG OBE former State Premier, when opening this exhibition in Perth.

Publication of a book covering this Special Historical Exhibition is being considered.  The book will include the map and list of attacks on Allied Shipping and Australian Territory produced for this Exhibition.
